A BASEMENT AND A NEW IDEA
It was 1970. Paolo Montesi was a boy from a small town in Romagna, interested in mechanics and motorcycles, who worked in an auto repair shop partnership.
But Paolo had a dream: to start a turning shop. With his wife’s support and his tenacious entrepreneurial spirit, he created his own business by himself. The first investments he made were for purchasing the first lathes and other equipment. After a few years, more room was needed, so he built a facility next to his home.
At the entry was a sign that stated: Torneria Automatica Artigiana (Automatic Turning Shop).
STARTUP
Everything was ready, the first instruments of the highest quality, the material and suppliers, the spaces, and the first employees. People of the town offered their professional skills.
The group is efficient, it works well, and the customers are satisfied. Despite the daily difficulties, solutions were found to keep moving forward, change, and grow together. The company was transformed, in name and fact, from a sole proprietorship to a partnership. Plus, to expand future possibilities, the company began doing roll threading, a technology that allows cold deformation of steel without creating chips.

TAKE-OFF
Ivan is Paolo’s son. Inspired by his father’s entrepreneurial spirit, he decided to dedicate his university studies to support the company’s evolution.
The manufacturing area was doubled, new process automation technologies were added, the sales network was extended, and a new product line dedicated to industrial distribution appeared in the warehouse. Another step forward was taken with the investment in robotic production cells that introduce the company in new industries characterized by quality and an abundance of batches.
The founder’s passion for the motorcycle industry was transformed into market shares.
THE DAWN OF THE MILLENNIUM
The turning shop greeted the new millennium with 30 years in the business.
Along with a new location for the offices, numerically controlled rolling machines were also purchased, which increased performance quality and allowed for unprecedented results. Particular care is taken in the production of screws machined to design. The e-commerce network became operative for online orders of standard products.
The year is 2012, the time is ripe and the company becomes a corporation. It was time for Ivan to take the baton and continue the race.

THE GENERATION SHIFT
The generation shift marks an historical demarcation for the business and generates a series of revolutions:
- turnover of employees who reached retirement age after an entire career with the company;
- hiring of a new work force and revision of the professional training programme;
- technological upgrading of the means of production in view of the digital age;
- ISO 9001 quality certification.
The amount of exports both inside and outside of the European Union increased significantly.
2017 saw the creation of soluzionirullate.it, a blog whose purpose was to collect the experience, designs, ideas, and stories of the ‘insiders’.
THE TURNING SHOP TODAY
Step by step, firm in its entrepreneurial values and driven by the favourable wind of a brilliant land, Torneria Montesi fully earned its position in the mechanical subcontracting industry. But it stands ready to renew itself thanks to its consolidated ability to perfect itself, just like one of the components it produces.
